Change With One Meal Story

I got a call from my childhood friend who studied with me in primary school. After school we lost contact for years, but thanks to Facebook for reconnecting us. He used to work in an unorganised factory before lockdown and used to earn less than 7K ($100) per month.

Over the call, he was sounding disturbed. He requested me for Rs. 100 as there was no ration in his home that day since last 2 days. I knew him and knows how honest he is, so there was no doubt about his need.

But I wanted to know his actual need, so I sent one of our common friends in Maujpur, Delhi. He went there and after handing over the funds, he almost cried on his situation over the call (after all it was our childhood friend). He can’t ask for help from others and can’t go for borrowing.

I thought there must be so many people like him, who wanted to eat with dignity. But can’t afford two times meal. Thats when I decided to start “Change With One Meal“.

What this Campaign about?

Change With One Meal is serving around 1,000-1,200 people everyday at a price of Rs.10, whereas the actual cost comes around Rs.38 per meal (current cost including rent and salaries).

To fill the cost gap, we created this campaign to raise enough support to keep serving our people.

It is very difficult for us to manage finances each month, as we need around Rs. 10,00,000 every month to keep our operations running to serve our people.

As the number of people is increasing we need regular support from people like you.

What we have done till date?

We have served more than 2,000,000 meals till March 25 and that too without missing out a day in 5 years.

During the second lockdown we provided packed meals which was coming almost double the cost but we were committed to provide meals at Rs.10.

We also deliver food to few people who cannot visit our outlet.

Where we are today?

Since October 2020, we didn’t miss a single day to serve people (except 26 different days where we had no option) and till March 2025 we have served more than 2,000,000 meals.

We are proud to share that we have served healthy, hygienic and nutritious meals throughout this time.

To keep our operations going, we even had mortgaged our jewellery, swept all our credit cards, lost all our savings, even took loan and now standing empty hands. But that was not enough to keep it going for too long.

We need regular monthly funds and don’t have regular support to fund our operations.

In current situation, we don’t have capacity to take any further loans and if we get recurring support (under CSR or fixed donors), I am sure that we can continue our operations.
